The bell tower St Peter's Church in Humberston was sadly destroyed by a fire on 7th March 2011. This church banner was made by the children of the village in 1960, and was proudly displayed in the church since its creation. The banner was salvaged from the remains before being keptin storage for a few years before it was presented to me, hoping it could be restored back to its original appearance so it could be put back on display.

Despite the fire, the banner was in a surprisingly good condition, with only the surface disfigured from the falling ash. Wet cleaning methods were avoided, as the pencil drawing on the front was soluble in water, and wet cleaning would only ingrain the ash deeper into the fibre. Instead, dry cleaning methods were used to gently remove the surface ash and brighten the overall appearance of the textile
